What sprocket is best for me?
When comparing a 40T rear sprocket to a 22T rear sprocket, the difference comes down to torque versus speed. A larger rear sprocket, like the 40T, increases torque and climbing ability—each pedal or motor revolution turns the rear wheel fewer times, which gives the bike more pulling power and control at low speeds. This setup is ideal for steep hills, heavy loads, or rugged terrain where power and precision matter most. On the other hand, a smaller 22T rear sprocket reduces torque but increases top-end speed—each pedal rotation turns the rear wheel more times, making it better suited for flat terrain or open road riding where efficiency and higher speeds are the goal. In short, the 40T rear sprocket favors power, while the 22T rear sprocket favors speed.
